Evening Discussion with János Martonyi

Evening Discussion with János Martonyi

Dear Hungarian LSE Alumni Group Members,
it is our great pleasure to invite you and your guest to the latest event in our Evening Discussion series. Our distinguished speaker this time will be His Excellency János Martonyi, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Hungary.

Mr Martonyi held the reigns at the helm of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs throughout two full parliamentary terms, between 1998-2002 and 2010-2014, making him the longest serving foreign minister in Hungary's post-socialist history. His tenure saw Hungary navigate through several undoubtedly interesting periods of Hungarian foreign policy: spanning from the nurturing of EU accession talks to the Hungarian Presidency of the EU in the first six months of 2011 - not to mention the oftentimes turbulent spells during these past few years. Amongst the many prizes recongising his achievements, he was awarded the Order of the Merit of the Hungarian Republic in 2003 and the Légion d'Honneur in 2000.

The title of the discussion will be: 'Hungarian foreign policy in the 21th century'

The event will be organised in collaboration with the International Circle of Hungary. Thanks to their generous efforts, the venue for the event will be the Ceremonial Hall of "Fasori" Lutheran Secondary School - alma mater to several Hungarian Nobel Laureates and notable scientists.

Please do not forget to register for the event through the link provided at our Facebook page.
